New Mixtape Release: Princess Nokia – 1992

Princess Nokia formally known as Wavy Spice aka Destiny Nicole Frasqueri, has released her new mixtape, 1992.  The project is very New York, very grimy, and very unapologetically Afro-Latina. She released a video for the single Tom Boy earlier this summer. On the project, she speaks on her laid back style, Bruja culture, and the diversity of hair in the black and brown community. I was lucky enough to see her perform at Fields Festival a few a weeks ago. She specifically shouted out black and brown women throughout the show and made it clear that it is never okay to touch a black woman’s hair, all to a crowd of stoned white people; I loved every minute of it! Check out some of the photos from the event and one of my favorite tracks from the project, Brujas.

A free download is available on her website, and soundcloud.
