A new poster for the highly anticipated film, “The Birth of a Nation” was released on Tidal. The poster depicts Nat Turner, a slave who led an historic rebellion in Southampton County, VA, hung by an American Flag, representing America’s long and brutal racist history with African Americans. The same history that is often romanticized or swept under a rug. The film was written, produced, and directed by actor Nate Parker. Who, as you can imagine, went through much adversity to get the film off the ground. “Healing can only come through an honest confrontation with our past”, Parker wrote of the poster. “Do we have the courage to examine the true Birth of this Nation?”
The film struck a 17.5 million deal with Fox Searchlight Pictures at Sundance this year. Making it the highest selling film at Sundance to date. The film is set to hit theaters on Oct 7th.
